Abstract

The purpose of this study was designed to study the comparison between the prevalence of burnout in pediatricians of General Hospitals. The sample were 123 pediatricians working in Services of Pediatrics at general hospitals. 89 women (72,4%) and 34 men (27,6%). The study was cross-sectional, and not randomized. Burnout was evaluated by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS), and by the “Spanish Burnout Inventory” (SBI). Different approaches were employed to establish the prevalence of burnout in the sample of study. The prevalence of burnout was different according to the used approach. Following the points of the USA manual the prevalence was 10.59%; while considering the Dutch clinical approach the percentage was only 3.25%. Using SBI the prevalence was 3.25%. The prevalence levels vary significantly depending of the applied approach, and because of cross-cultural influences, but were similar using both questionnaires with clinical criteria.
