Abstract

The Psychology, as a science and as a profession during the last quarter of the century in Spain, is questioned at present under three main points of view. First of all the actual status. Spanish Psychology is actually going through a resplended growth and development. The student body in Psychology have been multiplied, the university teaching has spread out and several scientific societies have turn up. Furthermore it is related to the international network, and a widely professional development has taken place. The former Spanish Civil War frustrated the efforts made to settle down and to institutionalize Psychology. The appearance of Psychology master’s degree made a change when 60’s where ending. Germain was the essential link previously to and afterwards the Civil War: His followers guaranteed continuity and held up the consolidation of contemporary manners of doing in Spanish Psychology.

At the second place the problems that hasten the professional role of psychologists will be put under question. Regardless of its settlement in social life, it has the most obstacles concerned with roles double dealings and the hazard of loosing autonomy and freedom. There is an over seizing of field, specially in the academic boundary, with risk of individualism and dispersion.

Finally it is put under scope the immediate future horizon. It is essential to create a well versed core of major field of studies, being them institutionally recognised. The psychologist training must be supported in its both technical and practical dimensions. It is essential, too, to outline new studies schemes and to extend the procedures related with publications and to give specific weight to a scientific and professional community such as that from Latin America. It is advisable not to forget the link between Spanish Psychology and that from other European countries. In brief, Spanish Psychology needs the image of the professional psychologist to be consolidated.
